Instructions
Steps to Make a Chain

1. Take bag by the handles and pull it down to fill with air.
2. Poke one hole in each of the corners of the bag with index finger
3. Take another bag and fill it with air and thread the handle of one side through both bottom holes, in one hole and out the other.
4. Tie the handles together in a tight square knot and tuck excess handles inside the bag.
5. Repeat steps one to four using 3 more bags in one chain.
6. Make chains

Steps to Assemble

7. Start with three chains of five bags and tie each of the end chain handles into a square knot
8. Tie the chains to each other using square knots
9. Braid the three chains together.
10. Spiral around the knots in the center while braiding
11. Every few inches thread the center strand of the braid through an opening in a previous row of the forming bag be to attach the newest strand to the fabric.
12. When the strands get shorter as you braid, add five more bags to each strand and continue braiding and spiraling around.
13. If a hole appears, it can be covered by ripping a bag into a strand with two handles on either end. Place the strand at the beginning edge of the hole and pull each end until even. Weave them back and forth like shoelaces and tip off and weave in the ends.

Collect approximately 1,000 bags for a 6-7 foot bag blanket. A child blanket would take less.
It takes 40 person hours total to make one blanket, so it would take a class of 20 students over two hours of working together.
