Propane Tanks & Gas Cylinder Disposal

  Unanswered question? Ask the staff.

Due to recent changes in federal regulations, propane tanks that are not equipped with an Overfill Protection Device (OPD) cannot be refilled. A new tank must be purchased by the consumer.

Old propane tanks can be disposed of at various locations in Cuyahoga County. The easiest way to dispose of an old propane tank is to simply bring your non-OPD cylinder to an AmeriGas or Blue Rhino Exchange Location (most Lowe's and Home Depot locations). They will exchange your old cylinder for a new cylinder that is OPD equipped and 2002 safety compliant.

Also, there are a few private companies that will dispose of propane tanks and other gas cylinders, empty or full, for a small fee. The following is a list of companies located in Cuyahoga County that will dispose of homeowner's propane tanks:

Company Phone Number Notes
Gas House Propane Company (440) 439-4474 $5/tank
Welder's Supply (216) 241-1696 $5/tank
Westside Supply Company (216) 267-9353 $5/tank
