The Savings
Together the schools saved 17.88 BTUs of energy, 947.76 gallons of gasoline and 2.05 tons of bauxite. They eliminated 2.05 tons of caustic red mud from being produced during aluminum manufacturing. Recycling one ton of cans is equivalent to running electricity for ten years in one home, so the students recycled enough cans to run the electricity for 4.02 years.

The total amount of aluminum collected equaled 74.75 bags of cans. Using conversion calculations of crushed and uncrushed cans, approximately 1,908 pounds or nearly a ton of aluminum was recycled.

2005 Results
Each school received five recycling containers to collect their cans that they got to keep. The bags were fifty-five gallons, so the schools collected less bags compared to last year. Thanks to Berea High School, Euclid High School, Beachwood Middle School and Stokes Academy.
2004 Results
1,955 students from seven organizations collected over 400 thirty gallon bags of cans for the entire month of October. Pleasant Valley Elementary, Berea High School, Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland, Charles Mooney Preparatory School and St. Marks School collected enough cans to earn a 40 gallon can crusher bin for their lunchroom. Pleasant Valley Elementary contributed the most bags of cans and won a pizza party.
