Earth Day Activities and Projects

This section contains information, lessons, ideas and project to help teachers and students celebrate Earth Day and to learn about their environment. Here are some Earth Day Ideas for Schools. Earth Day is celebrated by schools, communities and organizations, which honors the first Earth Day in April of 1970 and reminds us to be better stewards of our earth. Please contact Kathleen Rocco at 216-443-3731 if you would like a speaker for your Earth Day celebration. Every day should be Earth Day!

For more information about Earth Day, please visit the Earth Day Network. For information on Earthfest at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo, a celebration in honor of Earth Day for Northeast Ohio, visit the Earth Day Coalition.

Lessons have been adapted from: Reduce, Reuse Recycle, Sandra Ford Grove and Dr. Judi Hecktman, Creative Teaching Press, 1996; Super Savers Investigators, ODNR, DRLP, 1995; Investigating Solid Waste Issues, David Landis ODNR, DRLP, 1994.
