Draw an one inch border on three sides of the top of the pizza box.
Cut along the three sides leaving the line along the back of the box uncut.
Form flap by gently folding back along the uncut line to form a crease.
Cut and glue a piece of aluminum foil to fit on the inside of the flap. Smooth out any wrinkles as the foil is glued into place.
Cut and tape the plastic on the underside of the top of the box. Make sure the plastic is larger than the opening. Be sure to tape plastic well, so there is a tight seal along the window so that the air cannot escape from the oven interior.
Cover sides and bottom with aluminum foil and glue into place.
Insert black construction paper to line the bottom of the pizza box and glue.
Use stick, straw or string to hold open the flap during cooking. Adjust flap until the aluminum reflects the maximum sunlight through the window into the oven interior.
Cooking
This model of a solar oven can heat up; however, it is hot enough to cook food and kill germs in water. The oven will take around twice as long as conventional ovens. The solar oven can be used during warmer months and should be preheated for about 30 minutes. Adding insulation can help hold in heat.
